Parashat Tetzaveh: Wise of Heart – Endowed with Ruach Chochmah to Serve the King

Weekly Readings:

Torah: Exodus 27:20-30:10

Haftarah: 1 Samuel 15:2-34

Brit Chadashah: 1 Corinthians 12:7; Colossians 3:23

This week’s parasha turns our eyes from the blueprints of the Mishkan to the Kohanim who will serve inside it. HaShem gives precise instructions for the holy garments that will clothe Aaron and his sons—garments of “glory and beauty” (Exodus 28:2)—designed to set them apart as they minister before the L-rd. But before a single thread is woven or a single stone set, HaShem reveals the true source of the work:

“You are to speak to all who are skilled, whom I have filled with a spirit of artistry, to make Aaron’s garments for consecrating him, so that he may minister to Me as a kohen.” (Exodus 28:3)

The English translation is nice and all, but the Hebrew makes this passage far more intimate and powerful:

“Speak to all the wise of heart [chachmei-lev], whom I have endowed [male’ti] with a spirit of wisdom [ruach chochmah]…”

HaShem is not calling the naturally talented or the formally trained. He is calling those whose hearts He has already filled. The wisdom here is not abstract philosophy, it is practical, creative, Spirit-breathed skill that flows from the heart into holy service (avodah).

Here is the exciting news: This invite is for you as well!

The same G-d who spiritually filled the artisans for the crafting of the priestly garments (and soon Bezalel with “the Spirit of G-d, with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship” – Exodus 31:3) has poured out His Ruach HaKodesh on you and every single believer in Messiah Yeshua. You have been endowed. You carry divine skill, insight, creativity, leadership, mercy, administration, encouragement, and or any other unique expression of chochmah the Father has placed in you. These are not random talents but are your unique priestly garments!

Yeshua, our Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14), has made us “a royal priesthood, a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6). Just as the Kohanim wore garments that declared their calling, we are clothed in Messiah’s righteousness and empowered by the same Spirit to minister in this world. The Brit Chadashah teaches:

“To each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the L-rd and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)

Your gifts are for service to the King and to serve others. Whether you teach, create, organize, heal, listen, lead, cook, write, encourage, or simply show up with consistent faithfulness, do it for the L-rd. Offer it as an act of worship. Let the Ruach Chochmah within you become part of the beauty and glory that points people to Yeshua.

If you’ve been sitting on your gifts thinking “I’m not skilled enough,” “It’s not important,” or “Someone else will do it,” hear the word of the L-rd today: He has already filled you. The only question left is whether you will put on the garments and step into the service He prepared in advance (Ephesians 2:10).

You were created for priestly service. The Ruach has equipped you. Now is the time to use every ounce of wisdom and skill for the glory of the One who has called you. What are you waiting for?

Mussar Exercise: Cultivating Chachmei Lev (Wise of Heart)

Theme: Stewarding G-d-Endowed Wisdom for Priestly Service

Middah (Character Trait): Chochmah (wisdom) expressed through avodah (wholehearted service)

Anchor Texts:

“Speak to all the wise of heart, whom I have endowed with a spirit of wisdom…” (Exodus 28:3)

“To each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

• “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23)

Core Intention for the Week: This week we move from doubting, hiding, or misusing our gifts to actively offering them as holy service. The Ruach has already filled you—now we activate that filling for the King and His Kingdom.

Guiding Question: Where am I under-using or misdirecting the wisdom and skills the L-rd has placed in me?

Keep a small notebook or notes app handy. Each day includes:

  1. Morning Kavanah (Intention)

  2. Action Practice

  3. Evening Cheshbon HaNefesh (Soul Accounting)

Morning Kavanah (Every Day): Upon waking, recite slowly (out loud if possible): “Today I embrace the Ruach Chochmah You have placed within me. I put on the priestly garments of wisdom and offer my skills as an offering to You, my King.”

Pause for one full breath, picturing yourself being clothed in Messiah’s garments just as Aaron was clothed for service.

Daily Mussar Practices

Day 1 – Awareness: Naming the Gifts

Practice: Make a list of 3–5 skills, talents, or areas of wisdom you possess (natural or Spirit-given). Thank the L-rd for each one by name.

Reflection Prompt: Have I been treating these as “mine” or as tools entrusted to me for His glory?

Day 2 – Activation Through Prayer

Practice: Pray James 1:5 for fresh wisdom, then ask the Ruach to highlight one specific gift to use today as a service to another.

Reflection Prompt: What opportunity appeared, and how did offering it make me feel?

Day 3 – Wholehearted Avodah

Practice: Take one ordinary task or skill today and do it “with all your heart” as unto Yeshua (Colossians 3:23).

Reflection Prompt: How did shifting the audience to the L-rd affect my effort and joy?

Day 4 – For the Common Good

Practice: Use one of your gifts to bless another believer or someone in need (a word, a meal, help, creativity, listening—whatever you carry).

Reflection Prompt: How did stewarding my gift build up the Body?

Day 5 – Guarding the Heart

Practice: Whenever pride, fear, or comparison arises while using a gift, pause and declare: “Not to me, but to Your name be the glory” (Psalm 115:1).

Reflection Prompt: What temptations surfaced, and how did surrender protect the purity of my service?

Day 6 – Communal Priesthood

Practice: Share one of your skills with your community or a fellow believer who needs it. Encourage them to name their own endowments too.

Reflection Prompt: How does seeing the gifts in others strengthen our shared calling as a royal priesthood?

Day 7 – Renewal of the Offering

Practice: Review your week’s notes. Choose one skill or area of wisdom to commit afresh to ongoing service. Speak a personal vow: “I renew my offering of this chochmah to You, L-rd. Clothe me again to serve.”

Reflection Prompt: Where did I feel the Ruach’s filling most clearly this week?

Repeat this practice and watch how your ordinary skills become sacred garments—beautiful, set apart, and shining with the glory of the One who endowed you.

You were filled for a purpose. Now go serve the King!
